Jamkhandi

India

Jamkhandi is a city located in the Bagalkot district of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is situated approximately 90 km west of the district headquarters and serves as a subdivision within the larger district. The administrative area of the Jamkhandi subdivision includes the taluks of Mudhol, Bilagi, Rabakavi-Banahatti, Teradal, and Jamkhandi.

Historically, Jamkhandi served as the capital of the former princely state of Jamkhandi. It holds a notable place in Indian administrative history as the first princely state to merge into constituent India based on local demand, which eventually led to its designation as a district before it became a subdivision.
