Chikkaballapur, also known as Chikkaballāpura, is the district headquarters of the Chikkaballapur district in the state of Karnataka, India. The district was recently established following its carving out from the Kolar district. Geographically, the city is situated within 3km of Muddenahalli.
The city serves as a regional hub for education and transport, and it is a significant site for the cultivation of silk, grain, and grapes. It is currently undergoing extensive infrastructure development, including the construction of a $400 million Pharmaceutical SEZ—the first of its kind in India—and new district government and police headquarters. Additionally, the state government is investing in urban expansion projects such as underground sanitary systems and the conversion of the Traveler Bunglow into a bus terminus.
