Bangarapet, also known as Bangāra pete, is a town located in the Kolar district of the Indian state of Karnataka. It serves as the administrative headquarters for the Bangarapet taluk.
The town was originally named Bowringpet, a name derived from an officer who worked in the Kolar Gold Fields. It developed primarily as a connecting point for traffic moving between these gold fields. Telugu is a major language spoken in the area; during the formation of the Karnataka state, the population was 54% Telugu.
