Moirang is a town located in the Indian state of Manipur, situated approximately 45 km south of the state capital, Imphal. It covers an area of 269 km² and has a population of 62,187 distributed across 67 villages within 12 Panchayats.
The town is notable for its cultural and historical significance as the place of origin of the ancient epic legend of Khamba and Thoibi, which is one of the seven epic cycles of Meitei mythology and folklore. It also houses the INA War Museum in the INA Martyrs' Memorial Complex, marking the site where Colonel Shaukat Malik of the Indian National Army first hoisted the Tricolour on Indian soil on April 14, 1944.
Moirang is associated with several tentatively listed UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Keibul Lamjao Conservation Area. This area encompasses Keibul Lamjao National Park—the world's only floating national park—as well as the buffer of Loktak Lake and Pumlen Pat.
