Udgir is a city and Municipal Council located in the state of Maharashtra, India. It serves as the headquarters for Udgir Taluka and stands as one of the largest cities within the Aurangabad division. Geographically, the city is situated in the Marathwada division, positioned very close to the borders of the states of Karnataka and Telangana.
The region's economy is primarily driven by agriculture, which serves as the main source of income for the town and its surrounding villages. Historically, Udgir was part of the Bidar District under the Hyderabad kingdom during the rule of Nizam Asifjah VI before Indian independence. Following the integration of the Hyderabad kingdom into India, the city became part of the Osmanabad district.
