Nashik, formerly known as Nasik, is a city located in the northern region of the Indian state of Maharashtra. Situated on the banks of the river Godavari, it lies approximately 165 km (103 mi) northeast of Mumbai, the state capital. The city serves as the administrative headquarters for the Nashik district and is part of the Nashik Metropolitan Region.
As the largest city in Northern Maharashtra, Nashik ranks as the fourth largest city in the state, following Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. It is recognized as one of the fastest developing Tier-2 cities in India.
