Nandurbar is a city and municipal council located in the northwest corner of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It serves as the administrative headquarters for the Nandurbar district, which was established on July 1, 1998, following the bifurcation of the Dhule district. The district covers an area of 5,034 km² and has a total population of 1,311,709, with approximately 15.45% of the residents living in urban areas.
The district is bounded by the state of Gujarat to the west and north, Madhya Pradesh to the north and northeast, and Dhule district to the south and southeast. Its northern boundary is defined by the Narmada River. Historically, the region gained significant attention in February 2006 during a bird flu crisis that affected numerous poultry farms, necessitating the culling and burial of thousands of chickens to prevent the spread of the virus.
