Kudal is a census town located in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, India. Situated on the banks of the River Karli in southwest Maharashtra, it is positioned in the center of the Sindhudurg district and is recognized as one of the fastest-growing towns in the Konkan region. As of 2011, the town had a population of 16,015 and ranks as the fourth largest town in the district after Sawantwadi, Malvan, and Kankavli.
The town serves as a significant transportation hub, featuring a major stop on the Konkan Railway route that connects Mumbai to Mangalore. It is also served by the Deccan Odyssey train and National Highway 66. Local infrastructure includes two bus stations—one located in the market area and another adjacent to the national highway—as well as one MIDC area within the Konkan division. Historically, Kudal was ruled by the Desai family, who were tributaries of the Bijapur Sultanate, the Marathas, and eventually the British.
