Ghatanji is an ancient city and municipal council located in the Yavatmal district of Maharashtra, India. The town's name is derived from a combination of "Ghati" and "Anji," which refers to its nearby suburbs. It serves as one of the primary towns within the Yavatmal district.
The city is widely recognized as the "Cotton City" due to the production of high-quality cotton by local farmers. It is also a significant pilgrimage site for those seeking the blessings of Brahmalin Shree Sant Maroti Maharaj, who has a Devasthan situated near the banks of the Waghadi River. A historical temple dedicated to Lord Nrusimha, constructed in the Hemadpanti architectural style, also stands in the city.
Every year during January and February, a fair honoring Brahmalin Shree Sant Maroti Maharaj is held at Azad Maidan. The primary celebration of this month-long event occurs on the day of Dahi Handi. The site attracts pilgrims and visitors from across Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and other neighboring states.
