Bhokardan is a metropolis located in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is recognized as one of the oldest cities in India and was historically identified by modern historians as the capital of an ancient district ruled by Raja Bhogavardhan.
The city was originally part of the Hyderabad State before joining India in 1948 following the Annexation of Hyderabad. In 1960, it became part of the state of Maharashtra after the reorganization of the bilingual Bombay state. Today, ruins of old fortifications remain visible around the city, with the area of the former fort currently housing tehsil offices.
