Bhadgaon is the historical name for the city currently known as Bhaktapur. It is located in the eastern corner of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, situated approximately 13 kilometres from the capital city of Kathmandu.
As one of the three main cities of the Kathmandu Valley, Bhaktapur is a major Newar settlement recognized for its distinct traditions, cuisine, and artisans. It holds the distinction of being the smallest municipality in Nepal by size while also being the country's most densely populated city.
The city suffered significant damage during the earthquake that occurred in April 2015.
