Aurangabad, which was officially renamed Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in 2023, is a city located in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It serves as the administrative headquarters for the Aurangabad district and holds the distinction of being the largest city within the Marathwada region.

Situated on hilly upland terrain in the Deccan Traps, the city is the fifth-most populous urban area in Maharashtra, following Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Nashik. As of recent data, its population stands at 1,175,116.
