Ambad is a town located in the Jalna district of Maharashtra, India. It serves as the second most populous town within the district and is governed by a municipal council convened at Court Road.
The town is notable for its temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Matsyodari. According to local tradition, the name "Ambad" was bestowed upon the city by a Hindu Raja named Ambarisha, who worshipped the goddess on a fish-shaped rock hill. The current temple was constructed by Ahilya Devi Holkar, who also developed the area by constructing a Pushkarini and Kavandi. Every October, devotees gather in Ambad to celebrate the Hindu festival of Dashahara.
Ambad is home to a Government Polytechnic College, which is one of only two such institutions located in the Jalna district, alongside the Government Polytechnic in Jalna.
