Palakkad, historically known as Palghat or Palakkattussery, is a city located in the Indian state of Kerala. It serves as the administrative headquarters of the Palakkad District and is situated approximately 347 kilometres northeast of Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital.
Established before Indian independence under British rule, the city is recognized as the most densely populated municipality and the fourth-most densely populated city in Kerala. It is notably home to the ancient Palakkad Fort, located in the heart of the city. The fort was captured and rebuilt by Hyder Ali in 1766 before falling into the hands of the Zamorin in 1784.
