Nileshwar

India

Nileshwaram, also known as Nileshwar or Neeleeswaram, is a major town and municipality located in the Kasaragod district of Kerala, India. It stands as one of only three municipalities within the district, alongside Kasaragod and Kanhangad. Geographically, the town is situated at the estuary where the Neeleshwaram River meets the Kavvayi Backwaters.

The area is recognized as the cultural capital of Kasaragod, which is the northernmost district of Kerala. Historically, the Neeleswaram segment served as a political constituency; notably, Kamaran Nair contested elections for the Assembly from this location. E. M. S. Namboodiripad, who served as the first Chief Minister of Kerala and was a prominent communist leader, also held a connection to the region's political history.
