Kannur, formerly known as Cannanore during British colonial rule, is a city and municipal corporation located in the state of Kerala, India. It serves as the administrative headquarters for the Kannur district. The city is situated approximately 274 kilometres north of Kochi and 137 kilometres south of Mangalore.
As of the 2011 census, the Kannur Municipal Corporation had a population of 232,486. It is recognized as the fifth largest city in Kerala and the fifth largest urban agglomeration in the state.
