Akhnoor is a town and municipal committee located in the Jammu district of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated approximately 28 km from the city of Jammu.
The town is positioned on the bank of the Chenab River, specifically at the point just before the river enters Pakistani Punjab. Due to this geographical location, Akhnoor holds significant strategic importance.
Administratively, the area is divided into three sub-divisions: Akhnoor, Chowki Choura, and Khour. It encompasses seven Tehsils, which include Akhnoor Khaas, Chowki Choura, Maira Mandrian, Jourian, Kharah Balli, Khour, and Pargwal.
