Solan is a city located in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It serves as the district headquarters for the Solan district and is situated at an average elevation of 1,550 metres (5,090 ft). The city is positioned on the Punjab-Himachal border, nestled within the Shivalik Hills of the Himalayas.
Geographically, Solan lies between Chandigarh and Shimla along the Kalka-Shimla National Highway-5. It is located approximately 45.5 kilometres (28 mi) south of the state capital, Shimla. The city is also a point through which the narrow-gauge Kalka-Shimla railway passes.
