Kalka is a city located in the Panchkula district of Haryana, India. Situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, it serves as a gateway to Himachal Pradesh and lies on National Highway 5 between Chandigarh and Shimla. The town's name is derived from the Hindu goddess Kali.
The city is notable for being the terminus of the Kalka-Shimla Railway. Historically, Kalka gained significant economic benefits as it was the primary highway destination from Shimla until 2010. It serves as a central point in an urban belt extending between Pinjore to the south and the industrial village of Parwanoo to the north. In 2013, its municipal committee was dissolved, and administration was reassigned to the Panchkula Municipal Corporation.
