Faridabad is the most populous city in the Indian state of Haryana. It serves as one of the major satellite cities surrounding Delhi and is situated approximately 284 kilometres south of Chandigarh, the state capital.
The city is a component of the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) and was designated as part of the Central National Capital Region or Delhi metropolitan area according to the 2021 Delhi Regional Plan. The river Yamuna serves as the eastern district boundary between Faridabad and the state of Uttar Pradesh.
In May 2016, the Government of India included Faridabad in the second list of the Smart Cities Mission. It remains a significant urban center within the national capital region's infrastructure.
