Ellenabad, formerly known as Kharial, is a city located in the Sirsa district of Haryana, India. Situated near Sirsa City, it lies on the south bank of the Ghaggar River within the Bagar tract areas shared by Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. The city serves as a strategic port of entry into Haryana from the Rajasthan side and is positioned near the borders of both Rajasthan and Punjab.
The city is characterized by a cosmopolitan culture that blends Punjabi (specifically Malwayi), Rajasthani Marwadi, Deshwali Haryanvi, and native Bagri traditions. Administratively, Ellenabad is divided into 17 wards with elections held every five years. The municipal structure currently consists of the Ellenabad Municipal Committee and the Ellenabad Rural Gram Panchayat, though there have been demands to merge these bodies into a single Municipal Council.
As of 2022, the city's population is estimated to exceed 60,000. The Ellenabad Municipal Committee manages approximately 8,387 houses, providing essential services such as water, sewerage, and road construction, while also holding the authority to impose property taxes within its jurisdiction.
