Vadnagar is a town and municipality situated in the Mehsana district of Gujarat, India. Located approximately 35 km from Mehsana, the settlement has been known historically by the names Anartapura and Anandapura.
The site holds historical significance as a location visited by the Chinese monk Xuanzang in 640 C.E. Additionally, Alexander Cunningham, the founder and first Director-General of the Archaeological Survey of India, identified the ancient city of Anandapura with the modern town of Vadnagar. The town is also notable as the birthplace of Narendra Modi, the current Prime Minister of India.
