Rajkot is a city located in the western Indian state of Gujarat, situated in the center of the Saurashtra region. It sits on the banks of the Aji and Nyari rivers. As of 2021, it is the fourth-largest city in Gujarat, following Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara, and ranks as the 35th-largest metropolitan area in India with a population exceeding 2 million.
Historically, Rajkot served as the capital of the Saurashtra State from April 15, 1948, until October 31, 1956. Following its merger with Bombay State on November 1, 1956, it was eventually reincorporated into Gujarat State on May 1, 1960. The city is noted for being the sixth cleanest city in India and was ranked as the 22nd fastest-growing city in the world as of March 2021.
