Khambhat, also known as Cambay, is a city and urban agglomeration located in the Anand district of Gujarat, India. It is situated on an alluvial plain at the northern end of the Gulf of Khambhat.
Historically, the city served as an important trading center until its harbor gradually silted up, causing maritime trade to shift to Surat. The region is geographically notable for the extreme rise and fall of its tides, which can vary by as much as thirty feet in the vicinity of the city.
Khambhat is recognized for various local products and resources, including halvasan sweets, sutarfeni, akik stone, and kites (patang). Additionally, the area serves as a source for oil and gas.
