Silapathar is a small city and municipal board situated in the Dhemaji district of Assam, India. Located on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River, it sits approximately 470 kilometres (290 mi) from Guwahati and just six kilometres (3.7 mi) from the border of Arunachal Pradesh.
The name Silapathar is derived from the Assamese words "Sila," meaning kite, and "Pothar," meaning rice fields, reflecting its history as a winter kiting ground for the native Mising people. The city is connected to Dibrugarh by India's longest rail-cum-road bridge.
The historical Malinithan Mandir is located approximately 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from the city center.
