Dibrugarh is a city located in the Indian state of Assam, situated approximately 435 km east of the state capital, Dispur. It serves as the headquarters for the Dibrugarh district in Upper Assam and functions as the seat of the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council, which governs the Sonowal Kachari tribe.
The city was formally announced as the second city of Assam on March 7, 2024. This designation followed the formation of the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation, which replaced the previous municipal board.
