Ponnur is a major town and municipality located in the Guntur district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It serves as the headquarters for the Ponnur mandal, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Tenali revenue division.
The region is associated with historical records, including an ancient Telugu manuscript titled 'Ponnuru-Chandavolu Shasanam' that was held at Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University. Additionally, a nearby road leading south-east toward Chandole passes through Nidubrolu, where a temple contains a stone inscription documenting the construction of 90 temples in 1132 CE.
In terms of local governance, Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar of the Telugu Desam Party is the current Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Ponnur constituency following the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election.
