Machilipatnam, also known by the names Masulipatnam, Masulipatam, or Bandar, is a city located in the Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is situated approximately 60 kilometres (37 mi) from Vijayawada and serves as the administrative headquarters for the Krishna district.
The city functions as a municipal corporation and is the mandal headquarters of Machilipatnam mandal within the Machilipatnam revenue division. Historically, it was an ancient port town that served as a settlement for European traders beginning in the 16th century. During the 17th century, it functioned as a major trading port for the Portuguese, British, Dutch, and French.
