Port Blair, officially known as Sri Vijaya Puram, serves as the capital city of the Indian union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is situated on South Andaman Island, positioned between the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman Sea to the east.
The city functions as the headquarters of the South Andaman district and holds the distinction of being the only notified town within the union territory. Geographically, it is located approximately 1,190 km (740 mi) from Chennai and 1,255 km (780 mi) from Kolkata on mainland India.
