Matak

Indonesia

Matak is an island situated within the Anambas Islands of Indonesia. It is geographically positioned in the South China Sea, located between the Malay Peninsula and Borneo.

The island serves as a primary base for several oil companies, including ConocoPhillips, Premier Oil, and Star Energy. Consequently, most residents, who number between 1,500 and 2,500 people, are typically employed by these energy firms. The island also hosts industrial facilities such as the Kosel Yamato factory.

Transportation to the island is facilitated by Matak Airport (MWK/WIOM). While its economy is heavily centered on the oil industry, it remains a functional hub for regional maritime and aviation activity in the South China Sea.
