Parepare is a city located on the southwest coast of Sulawesi in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is situated approximately 155 km (96 mi) north of Makassar, which serves as the provincial capital.
Functioning as a port town, Parepare is recognized as one of the primary population centers for the Bugis people. The city's population grew from 129,542 in the 2010 Census to 151,454 in 2020, with an official estimate of 165,137 as of mid-2025.
The city is also notable as the birthplace of B. J. Habibie, who served as the third President of Indonesia.
