Gorontalo is a province located on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. Situated on the Minahasa Peninsula, it was formerly an administrative part of North Sulawesi before being inaugurated as a separate province on December 5, 2000.
The city of Gorontalo serves as the provincial capital and is the most populated urban center and primary gateway to the region. Geographically, the province is bordered by North Sulawesi to the east and Central Sulawesi to the west. It also features a maritime border with the Philippines in the Sulawesi Sea to the north and a coastline along the Gulf of Tomini to the south.
The land area of Gorontalo is comparable in size to the nation of Vanuatu or the Russian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria.
