Pakis is an ethnic slur that originated in the United Kingdom. It is primarily directed at people of Pakistani descent but is also frequently used against other South Asians, including individuals from India and Bangladesh.
The term is sometimes employed as a religious slur targeting Muslims or those perceived to be Muslim regardless of their specific ethnic or racial background. In recent years, the word has increasingly been replaced by the euphemism "P-word" in many contexts.
Due to processes of reappropriation, some British Pakistanis have begun using the term in a non-pejorative manner. In these instances, it is used as slang to refer to other Pakistani people or individuals of South Asian descent in a neutral or friendly way.
