Palembang is the capital city of the South Sumatra province in Indonesia. It is situated in the eastern lowlands of southern Sumatra, with the city proper covering an area of 352.51 square kilometres on both banks of the Musi River.
As of the mid-2024 official estimate, Palembang has a population of 1,801,367. It ranks as the second most populous city in Sumatra, following Medan, and is the twelfth most populous city in Indonesia overall.
