Kotamobagu is a landlocked city located in the province of North Sulawesi, Indonesia. It serves as the principal center for the southern part of the province, specifically the Bolaang Mongondow region. This area has been under consideration by the Indonesian government for potential separation from North Sulawesi to form its own independent province.
The city was established as an autonomous entity on January 2, 2007, after being separated from the Bolaang Mongondow Regency. It covers a total land area of 108.89 km2. According to census data, the population grew from 107,459 in 2010 to 123,722 in 2020, with an official estimate of approximately 121,756 as of mid-2025.
