Palabuhanratu, also known as Pelabuhanratu, is an administrative district and fishing town located in West Java, Indonesia. It serves as the regency seat of Sukabumi Regency and is situated on the southwest coast of Palabuhanratu Bay, facing the Indian Ocean.
The town is accessible by a four-hour drive from Bandung and can take up to 12 hours from Jakarta depending on traffic conditions. The area is known for its horseshoe-shaped bay, formerly called Wijnkoopersbaai by the Dutch, which features enormous and treacherous waves. Local Sundanese tradition identifies the southern coast of Java as the home of Nyai Loro Kidul.
