Pekalongan is an independent municipality located on the northern coast of Central Java, Indonesia. It formerly served as the seat of the Pekalongan Regency before becoming its own administrative entity. The city covers a land area of 45.25 km² and has experienced steady population growth, with an estimated population of 324,564 as of mid-2025.
The city is recognized as the most important port in Central Java and is widely known for its batik production. In December 2014, Pekalongan became the first Southeast Asian city to be included in UNESCO's World's Creative Cities Network.
