Indramayu is a town and district located in the northern coastal area of West Java, Indonesia. It serves as the capital of the Indramayu Regency and is situated east of Jakarta, northeast of Bandung, and northwest of Cirebon. The name of the location is derived from the God Indra.
The geography of the district is characterized by land that sits largely below sea level. Due to this positioning, the area is vulnerable to high tides during stormy conditions. Protection against these coastal elements is currently provided primarily by a series of dunes and barrages along the seaside.
