Pematangsiantar

Indonesia

Pematangsiantar is an independent city located in the North Sumatra Province of Indonesia. It functions as a distinct urban entity that is geographically surrounded by the Simalungun Regency, effectively making it an enclave within that regency.

The city originally held the status of a second-level district and served as the administrative center for the surrounding Simalungun Regency. In 1986, Pematangsiantar was elevated to the status of Kota (City) and officially separated from the regency's jurisdiction.
