Medan is the capital and largest city of the Indonesian province of North Sumatra. It serves as a major regional hub and multicultural metropolis, functioning as a financial center for Sumatra and a gateway to western Indonesia. The city's strategic location is supported by its proximity to the Strait of Malacca, the Port of Belawan, and Kualanamu International Airport.
The city is one of the four main central cities in Indonesia, alongside Jakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar.
