Payakumbuh is a city located in the Minangkabau Highlands of West Sumatra, Indonesia. It serves as the second largest city in the province, covering a total area of 80.43 km2.
The city is situated approximately 120 km by road from Padang, the capital of West Sumatran, and 180 km from Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau. According to census data, the population was 139,576 in 2020, with an official estimate reaching 148,600 as of mid-2025.
