Padang Panjang is a city located in the highlands of West Sumatra, Indonesia. Situated at 0°27′S 100°25′E, it lies approximately 70 km inland from the provincial capital, Padang.
The city sits on a plateau positioned beneath the volcanoes Mount Marapi and Mount Singgalang, which contributes to its cooler temperatures. Historically, Padang Panjang served as a popular tourist destination during the period of Dutch rule in Indonesia. In more recent history, it has established itself as one of the primary centers for Islamic education in Sumatra.
