Padang is the capital and largest city of the Indonesian province of West Sumatra. It serves as the most populous city on the west coast of Sumatra and ranks as the 16th most populous city in Indonesia. The Padang metropolitan area is the third most populous metropolitan area in Sumatra, with a population exceeding 1.7 million.

As of mid-2025, the official estimate for the city's population was 965,050, consisting of 483,890 males and 481,21 females. The city is primarily recognized for its Minangkabau culture, local cuisine, and sunset beaches.
