Muaro Jambi Regency is a regency located in the Jambi Province of Sumatra, Indonesia. It was officially established on October 4, 1999, following the separation of the eastern districts from the Batang Hari Regency.
The regency surrounds the provincial capital city of Jambi on all sides and contains many of its expanding suburbs. Due to this proximity, the area has experienced population growth rates higher than other regions within the province. Historically, the region served as the seat of the Hindu-Buddhist Melayu Kingdom from the 4th until the 13th century.
The regency covers a total area of 5,264.00 square kilometers. According to census data and official estimates, its population grew from 342,952 in 2010 to approximately 424,580 by mid-2024.
