Trikora refers to a combined Soviet–Indonesian military operation conducted during the early 1960s. The primary objective of this operation was to seize and annex the Dutch overseas territory of New Guinea.
The military actions took place between 1961 and 1962. Following these operations, negotiations led to the signing of the New York Agreement by the Netherlands and Indonesia on August 15, 1962. Under this agreement, the Netherlands relinquished control of Western New Guinea to the United Nations.
