Penang is a Malaysian state situated on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is geographically divided into two distinct parts by the Strait of Malacca: Penang Island to the west and Seberang Perai on the mainland Malay Peninsula to the east. The capital city, George Town, is located on the island portion.
The two halves of the state are physically connected by the Penang Bridge and the Second Penang Bridge. Penang shares land borders with the states of Kedah to the north and east, as well as Perak to the south.
