Kokang is a region located in northern Myanmar within the northern part of Shan State. It is bordered by the Salween River to the west and China's Yunnan Province to the east, covering a total land area of approximately 1,895 square kilometers (732 sq mi).
The capital of the region is Laukkai. Kokang is primarily inhabited by the Kokang people, an ethnic Han Chinese group that has maintained a history of settlement in the area spanning several centuries.
