Kapan

Kapan is a town located in southeast Armenia. It serves as the administrative center of the Kapan Municipality and functions as the provincial capital of the Syunik Province. The town is situated in the valley of the Voghji River, positioned on the northern slopes of Mount Khustup near the border of Azerbaijan.

Kapan is the most populous town in both the Syunik Province and the southern region of Armenia. Census data indicates a population decline over recent decades; the population was recorded at 43,190 in 2011, down from 45,711 in 2001, and reached approximately 32,780 by the 2022 census.
