Praya

Indonesia

Praya is a historical term used in 19th-century Hong Kong to describe a promenade located by the waterfront. The name originates from the Portuguese word "praia," which translates to "beach." However, within the context of China, the term evolved to signify a stone-faced waterfront road.

In Hong Kong specifically, a Praya was characterized as a broad road that ran parallel to the harbor in front of the city. The area served as a significant commercial hub, housing several major companies such as HSBC and Dent & Co.
