The Narmada River, also known as the Narbada or Nerbudda, is a major river located in India. It serves as the fifth longest river in the country and is recognized as the longest west-flowing river in India. Additionally, it is the largest river situated within the state of Madhya Pradesh.
The river originates from the Amarkantak Plateau in the Anuppur district and flows westward for approximately 1,312 km (815.2 mi). It passes through the states of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, where it is considered a lifeline due to its various contributions to both regions. The Narmada forms a traditional boundary between North and South India before draining into the Arabian Sea through the Gulf of Khambhat.
